About RCCI

 

The RCCI is a rehabilitation center dedicated to service persons with communication impairments. Founded in 1993 by UK trained Speech Therapist, Shiranee Joseph-de Saram and a group of medical professionals to devote the need for centers for the high number of people with communication impairments in Sri Lanka. Through process, over 12,000 people have been treated in RCCI and the recently added special-needs school administrates sane school experiences with the access to training for over 100 people. Setting up training to medical professionals, teachers with a degree on special-needs education, organized public awareness campaigns and provided hearing aids to the kids thus commenced a toy lending drive. 

 

Their mission and vison is to provide therapy to any individual disregarding their socio-economic, ethnic or religious background by supplying education with an emphasis to children. In an extent, to respectively raise awareness upon rural areas on communication disorders in Sri Lanka. 

OSC partnership with RCCI

In the Overseas School of Colombo’s philosophy of education, it inquires focus on community service and service learning as fundamental components. The school encourages for a positive and enthusiastic approach towards service by offering students on a number of programs that give priority to the concern, awareness and responsibility for service in the community of Sri Lanka. 

 

OSC’s partnership with RCCI began in 1997

Every Thursday afternoon the kids would join with the OSC group for an hour-long session where we aim to develop their physical skills by involving a multiple of physical activities; this includes playing basketball, football, or passing the dodge ball, to reading a book and to watching a movie.
